For the superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of electoral rolls and for the conduct of all elections to the Panchayats in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, an Election Commission has been constituted and a Commissioner is appointed by the Hon’ble President of India.  The Office of the Election Commissioner has been held by

The Election Commission constituted for the Andmans and Nocibar islands under Section 185 of the Andman and Nicobar Islands (Panchayat) Regulation is also the Election Commission for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep

There have been two General Election to the District and Village (Dweep) Panchayats  in Lakshadweep.

The First General Election was held on  14.12.1997
The Second General Election was held on 16.10.2002
